Almost 18 months ago, our team in Denmark included the first patient for HARMONIC’s prospective study aimed at investigating the long-term effects of medical exposure to radiation in young cancer patients. As of May 15, 2022, the HARMONIC-Radiotherapy registry has already included a total of 1,200 patients aged between 0 and 18 years at the initiation of treatment.
“By the end of 2023, we plan to have recruited at least 2,400 treated patients from five photon or proton centers in Belgium, Denmark, France and Germany”, says Neige Journy, researcher at INSERM, France, and co-leader of the project’s work package dedicated to radiotherapy. In the near future, HARMONIC researchers expect to open the registry for collaboration with other pediatric oncology centers.
We really want to thank again the patients and parents for their participation!
The results of this study will help us improve recommendations for personalized treatment, follow-up, and well-being of young cancer patients.
